No Chinese calligraphy or painting is considered finished without the addition of the artist's seal. Similar to how Western artists sign their works, Chinese calligraphers always apply a name seal to finalize their pieces. If there is an inscription, the seal is placed afterward. It is important to note that all seals are applied once the brushwork is complete. Additionally, artists may opt to include a studio seal, featuring the name of their studio, as an extra form of authentication and/or decoration.
